Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of IT Advisor within our IT ICS Cyber Security group based in Houston, TX.

This position will be part of Occidental Petroleum's Industrial Control Systems (ICS) Security Team, responsible for implementing and maintaining systems that protect and improve the security posture of the Oxy ICS environment. The role involves working closely with internal and external resources to develop, implement, and ensure compliance with security policies and procedures for the ICS environment. Responsibilities include assessing network topologies and environments to ensure compliance, and collaborating with other teams to track and remediate deficiencies.

Qualifications - External

Desired Skills:

  • Moderate understanding of IT-OT convergence, Purdue Model, IDMZ concepts, network technologies, systems, and concepts.
  • General understanding of cybersecurity frameworks and standards such as NIST CSF, CIS, and MITRE ATT&CK.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication protocols and technologies from main vendors.
  • Experience with anomaly detection tools in ICS/OT environments, focusing on data correlation and remediation of misconfigurations.
  • Knowledge of OT asset and vulnerability management, working with asset owners to remediate issues.
  • Familiarity with OT monitoring technologies, traffic analysis (Wireshark PCAPs, IDS).
  • Experience responding to security incidents, conducting incident response and tabletop exercises.
  • Ability to analyze logs from SIEMs to generate actionable tasks for SOC and security teams.
  • Effective communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience supporting industrial protocols such as OPC, Modbus TCP, HART is a plus.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years in IT/OT security with hands-on experience.
  • Knowledge of ICS/SCADA system security design and controls.
  • IT certifications such as GISCP, CISSP, CEH, CCENT/CCNA are desirable.
  • Understanding of the Oil and Gas industry and ICS environments.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.
