Human Resources Generalist - Nonprofit
Location: Houston, TX 77024
Reports To: Director of Human Resources
Duration: Contract - 6+ months
Pay Rate: $24-30/hr.
Position Summary Weare seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support the day-to-day HR operations of a mission-driven nonprofit organization. This role will serve as a trusted resource for employees and leadership, assisting with employee relations, onboarding, benefits administration, performance management, and compliance. The ideal candidate is people-focused, organized, and passionate about creating a positive employee experience while supporting the organization's mission and growth.

Key Responsibilities Employee Relations & Support
- Serve as a primary point of contact for employee questions regarding HR policies, benefits, and workplace procedures.
- Assist with employee relations matters, investigations, and conflict resolution while maintaining confidentiality.
- Support performance management processes, employee development initiatives, and engagement programs.
- Coordinate onboarding and offboarding processes to ensure a smooth employee experience.
- Maintain employee records and HR documentation in compliance with company policies and employment regulations.
- Administer benefits programs and assist employees with enrollment and benefit-related questions.
- Process personnel changes, leave requests, and employment documentation.
- Assist with payroll preparation and provide support for HR audits and reporting.
- Partner with hiring managers to support recruiting efforts, candidate screening, and interview coordination.
- Assist with job postings, applicant tracking, and onboarding of new hires.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and nonprofit HR best practices.
- Support HR initiatives, policy updates, training programs, and special projects as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of Human Resources experience in a Generalist, HR Coordinator, or similar role.
- Working knowledge of employee relations, benefits administration, onboarding, and employment law.
- Experience maintaining confidential employee information and handling sensitive situations professionally.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- HR experience within a nonprofit, community-based, or mission-driven organization.
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or other HR certification.
- Experience supporting employee engagement and retention initiatives.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
