Mechanical Engineering Role – Industrial Facility Operations

Houston, TX | Full-Time

An established Houston-based manufacturer is actively seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to help lead efforts related to equipment integrity, reliability, and technical asset performance across the plant. The role will focus heavily on mechanical systems supporting industrial processes, emphasizing inspection programs, maintenance strategies, and engineering project participation.

Primary Areas of Accountability

  • Develop and implement plans to monitor the health and performance of mechanical systems and pressure-retaining assets across the facility
  • Administer documentation and compliance tasks associated with mechanical integrity protocols and reliability tracking
  • Partner with internal maintenance and engineering personnel to craft equipment lifecycle strategies that minimize disruptions and reduce risk of failure
  • Areas of equipment responsibility include:
  • Fixed assets: storage tanks, fired heaters, heat exchangers, PSV/PVSV/ERV components, piping networks, pressure vessels
  • Rotating equipment: pumps, compressors, agitators, mechanical seals, blowers
  • Deliver technical assessments on aging or damaged equipment and provide input for repair recommendations, component replacements, or design changes
  • Monitor KPIs related to maintenance performance; identify and recommend action plans for reliability improvements
  • Support inventory decisions related to critical spares and optimize stock levels for maximum system uptime
  • Contribute to engineering design work, especially during early-stage (FEL) capital projects
  • Collaborate with external vendors and internal project teams to ensure mechanical requirements are integrated during planning and execution phases
  • Help establish internal reference standards for mechanical design and maintenance across the site
  • Participate in site audits and internal reviews relating to environmental, safety, and process compliance
  • Maintain adherence to internal documentation standards aligned with ISO 9001 quality frameworks
  • Ensure work practices comply with applicable codes, regulatory requirements, and site safety protocols

Background & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience related to mechanical integrity, asset reliability, and project execution in heavy process industries such as petrochemical, refining, or upstream oil and gas
  • Valid Professional Engineering (P.E.) license required
  • Strong understanding of RBI (Risk-Based Inspection) methodologies, corrosion mechanisms, and static/rotating asset assessments
  • Hands-on familiarity with API standards, pressure equipment codes, and turnaround planning is highly desirable

This opportunity is tailored for individuals with deep experience in high-risk industrial environments who can serve as a technical authority while also executing on day-to-day reliability initiatives. If you bring a strong foundation in inspection programs and have a drive to reduce downtime and failure risks, this position offers long-term impact and stability.
