HDR is seeking a strong Business Group Area Manager to lead and grow our newly formed Building Engineering Services Business Group in the Houston Area.
Primary Responsibilities
The Building Engineering Services Business Group Area Manager will provide engineering, consulting, planning, and program management services to clients in the Houston area. This role involves developing strategies to grow the new business group, creating a Building Engineering Services project delivery team, and collaborating with other regional offices to utilize staff while building the local team.
The manager will build and develop a team providing mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, civil, structural, and specialty design services for various building types, including public, municipal, private, and federal projects across the region and globally. Responsibilities include managing project delivery, developing business growth strategies, client development, and implementing a business plan focused on responsible growth. Additional duties involve participating in client pursuits, managing projects, providing technical services, staff administration, marketing, overseeing quality, and mentoring staff. The manager will also work with other HDR business groups and coordinate project delivery services across the company.

Required Qualifications
- BS in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, or related Engineering degree
- P.E. license required
- Minimum 10 years' experience in Building MEP, civil, or structural project delivery and planning
- Commitment to quality and HDR's values
- Active participation in our employee-owned culture
- Experience leading diverse teams
- Ability to collaborate with regional and local managers and marketing teams
- Engagement in professional or industry associations
Preferred Qualifications
- Reside locally in Houston
- Strong reputation for delivering quality, cost-effective projects
- Self-starter with strong communication and people skills
- Marketing experience
- Proven success in growth management
- Understanding of HDR's business groups and market sectors requiring building engineering
- Prior consulting experience preferred
- Ability to work cooperatively with other HDR area managers
