Job Summary

The Coordinator, Community Arts advances the visibility and impact of the university's fine arts programs through outreach and event coordination. The Coordinator of Community Arts plays a central part in organizing exhibitions, fostering partnerships with local arts organizations, and promoting artistic engagement both on campus and in the broader community.

Duties

  • Collaborates with university's music ensemble directors to organize performances, schedule campus and community appearances, and identify promotional opportunities.
  • Cultivates and sustains partnerships with local artists, musicians, organizations, and businesses to strengthen community engagement and expand programming.
  • Assists with art gallery operations, including managing exhibition inventories, coordinating loan agreements, and overseeing shipping logistics.
  • Provides logistical and creative support for exhibitions and performances, including signage preparation and installation setup.
  • Supports the preparation of exhibitions and performances, including signage and installation assistance as needed.
  • Coordinates fine arts-related campus events and receptions in collaboration with administrative staff.
  • Develops relationships with Houston-area high schools and contributes to planning the annual high school art exhibition, supporting student recruitment into Fine Arts programs.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of one (1) year of related job experience.

License/Certification:

  • None Required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in humanities discipline.
  • Graphic design skills and ability to help set up events and event spaces, including basic AV equipment familiarity.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the trends, issues, and accepted practices of managing off campus sites and online programs in higher education.

Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills (written, oral, phone).
  • Arts administration and marketing skills are highly beneficial.
  • Detailed oriented.

Abilities:

  • Ability to work collaboratively.

Work Location and Physical Demands

Primary Work Location:

  • Works in an office environment and/or gallery environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Individuals have discretion in relation to walking, standing etc., and has minimal exposure to physical risks.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs., ability to stand, kneel, or crouch during arts installation, ability to use a ladder safely, ability to see and hear are necessary.
