System Engineer

Position Overview

The Systems Engineer serves as a senior technical resource responsible for the design, implementation, and advanced support of IT infrastructure across client environments.

This role requires deep expertise in Cisco Meraki networking and Microsoft Intune endpoint management, with the ability to lead deployment projects, perform advanced troubleshooting, and mentor other technicians.

You'll be a key escalation point, ensuring stability, security, and performance while upholding The Core Technology Group's standards for service excellence and cybersecurity compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and deploy network solutions using Cisco Meraki firewalls, switches, access points, and VPNs.
• Configure and optimize network segmentation, VLANs, routing, and security policies.
• Lead migrations and rollouts involving Intune, Azure AD, and Microsoft 365 environments.
• Implement conditional access and compliance policies through Microsoft Intune.
• Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to design scalable and secure client systems.
• Act as a senior escalation point for complex networking and endpoint issues.
• Perform root cause analysis and share knowledge across the team.
• Use monitoring tools (e.g., Arctic Wolf, Huntress, Cisco Meraki Dashboard) for proactive issue detection.
• Enforce and maintain cybersecurity best practices and compliance frameworks.
• Assist in incident response and post-mortem analysis.
• Communicate project scopes, timelines, and updates directly with clients.
• Document infrastructure designs, network diagrams, and procedures in IT Glue.
• Participate in client technology reviews and provide strategic recommendations.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• 3+ years of IT infrastructure or MSP experience.
• Expertise in Cisco Meraki (MX, MS, MR, Systems Manager).
• Strong background with Microsoft Intune, Azure AD, and Microsoft 365 enterprise environments.
• Experience with VMware or Hyper-V, firewalls, and compliance frameworks.

Technical Skills

• Deep knowledge of VLANs, routing, NAT, DHCP, DNS, VPNs, and QoS.
• Familiar with Conditional Access, Autopilot, and Endpoint Security Baselines.
• Experience with Huntress, Proofpoint, Cisco Umbrella, or similar tools is a plus.
• Ability to unify network, identity, and endpoint management.

Preferred Certifications

• Cisco CCNA (preferred)
• Microsoft Certified: Intune Administrator or Modern Desktop Administrator
• CompTIA Network+ or Security+
• VMware, Azure, or cybersecurity certifications a plus

Work Environment

• Full-time onsite role based in South Houston, TX
• Rotating weekend on-call support
• Travel to client sites as needed
• Occasional after-hours maintenance or escalations
